Board of Directors: Roles and Responsibilities

The Board of Directors of Sierra Community Access Television (SCATV2) serves as the primary governing body of the station. Board members are responsible for ensuring the organization remains sustainable, legally compliant, and true to its mission of providing El Dorado County with a platform for local expression.

1. Fiduciary Oversight and Financial Stability

  • Financial Guardianship: Monitor the station’s financial health by reviewing monthly financial statements, approving the annual budget, and ensuring adequate internal controls.
  • Fundraising and Sustainability: Actively participate in securing the financial resources necessary for SCATV2 to operate. This includes supporting grant applications, identifying underwriting opportunities, and assisting with community donation campaigns.

2. Strategic Leadership and Mission Advancement

  • Strategic Planning: Establish and regularly review the station’s long-term goals to ensure SCATV2 evolves with the changing landscape of digital media and community needs.
  • Policy Governance: Formulate and approve high-level organizational policies that guide station operations, programming ethics, and community standards.

3. Community Advocacy and Representation

  • Ambassadorship: Serve as a vocal advocate for SCATV2 within El Dorado County. Promote the station’s services to local government, non-profits, and the public to increase viewership and volunteerism.
  • Stakeholder Connection: Act as a bridge between the community and the station, ensuring that the diverse voices of our region are represented in our programming and outreach.

4. Operational Support and Legal Compliance

  • Legal Compliance: Ensure the organization adheres to all 501(c)(3) regulations, state laws, and local franchise agreements.
  • Board Development: Participate in the recruitment and orientation of new board members to ensure a diverse and skilled leadership pipeline.

5. Personal Commitment and Participation

  • Active Attendance: Attend regularly scheduled board meetings and participate in special committees as needed.
  • Governance vs. Operations: While the Board focuses on high-level governance and sustainability, members work collaboratively with station management to support the technical and creative success of the channel.
