Memorial Day ceremonies to again be virtual
El Dorado County Memorial Day ceremonies will again be pre-recorded, broadcast and streamed.
“Last month we faced a ‘go, no-go’ decision whether to hold a
public Memorial Day ceremony. At the time El Dorado County was
struggling to drop out of the COVID-19 orange tier, which restricts
public gatherings. We’re still not there. So, there’s no safe option but
to hold another virtual ceremony, as was done on previous Memorial and
Veterans Days,” said El Dorado County Veterans Alliance President Gary
Campbell.
Last year’s virtual ceremonies were seen by over 32,000 viewers on
Sierra Community Access Television (cable Channel 2) and on county
veterans Facebook pages. Again, this Memorial Day, the pre-recorded
ceremony will be broadcast over Channel 2 and streamed on Facebook at 11
a.m. Facebook users will be able to see the ceremony online at the
following pages:
• Facebook.com/1ElDoradoCountyMilitaryVeterans/
• Facebook.com/EDCVeteransAlliance
• Facebook.com/groups/EDCVeteransMonument
This year’s Memorial Day ceremony will recognize the valiant and
heroic feats of El Dorado County’s Capt. Paul Jacobs, U.S. Navy, who
died in December. He is credited as having led the most significant
humanitarian mission in U.S. military history when he and his crew of
the USS Kirk — the smallest warship in the U.S. Navy — rescued more than
30,000 Vietnamese sailors, their families and refugees from certain
capture, incarceration, torture or execution in the final moments of the
Vietnam War. A plaque honoring Jacobs’ extraordinary accomplishment
will be dedicated and placed on the Honor Wall of the EDC Veterans
Monument.

Lights, camera … Gold Bug action
Park launches virtual tour for students--videos produced in association with Sierra Community Access Television.
" Charles Basham said the program will help teachers and parents meet the challenges associated with distance learning. There are study materials, photos, vocabulary activities and simple assignments that encourage critical thinking.
The videos and supporting materials are available for free in the Teacher’s Corner section of Gold Bug Park’s website goldbugpark.org.
Basham said the scope of the project
quickly grew and he realized the need for some expert help — especially
with the video. He contacted Gary Campbell, director of programming and
development at Sierra Community Access Television in Cameron Park.
Without hesitation Campbell adopted the concept and assembled a
volunteer video production team."
" The result is a fast-paced, five-episode
video featuring the activities of a typical field trip: mine tour, gold
panning, exploring the stamp mill, blacksmithing and a chat with
Gentleman Bandit Black Bart. Each episode features a park docent;
Cameron Park residents Carol, Carly and Colby Wahl appear as guests." View the videos also at Sierra Community Accessl Television YouTube Channel.
The Sacramento History Museum asked to include the program in its Teachers'
Resources for Gold Rush studies. The State Library and the El Dorado
County Office of Education are including it in their teacher resources
as well.

Day program Monday, May 25, at 11 a.m. on Comcast Channel 2 as well as the
SCA-TV2 YouTube channel, Facebook and the Sierra Community Access Television
website (sierratv2.blogspot.com).
“Due to concerns for the hundreds of
guests that normally attend Memorial Day observations at the El Dorado County
Veterans Monument and the uncertainty of when people may, once again, gather
for such events, the Board of Directors of the El Dorado County Veterans
Alliance-Friends of the Monument regretfully has canceled the Memorial Day
event for 2020 at the Monument,” EDCVA president Gary Campbell said. “We will
be working with local resources to present a special program that will honor
those who gave all which is the intent and spirit of Memorial Day. While we
still may be asked to stay at home and practice social distancing in late May,
we should all take time on the 25th to honor those lost in service to our
country. The special program being presented will do just that.”

Sierra Community Access Television 2nd Anniversary Celebration
Sierra
Community Access Television celebrated its 2nd anniversary of being
back on “the air” at the Iron Willow Gallery from at the 3rd during
the Saturday Art Walk, 5 to 9PM. There
were refreshments and the release of Channel 2’s Prime Time Wine: Placerville Zinfandel, Coloma Cabernet, and
El Dorado Hills Divinity. Proceeds from
the wine sale will help fund the station. http://bargainsonwine.com/scatv2/
The Western
Slope of El Dorado County is now enjoying its second year of Sierra Community
Access Television on Comcast Channel 2, and is now streaming plus On Demand at
sierratv2.blogspot.com.
The SCATV
Board and then City Manager John Driscoll and presented a business plan. The City of Placerville granted Channel 2 its
cable access rights on April 2, 2010.
Channel 2 was reborn with no government funding, no
broadcasting equipment, and the burden of the cost of rent and utilities of the
station studio. Thanks to community
donations, grants, and the dedicated efforts of citizens, funds have been
raised and modern broadcasting equipment acquired. Modern technology has made the necessity of a
physical studio unnecessary. The
technological skills of Roger Ruby of RJ Ruby Productions made the acquisition
of a cutting edge Leightronix Video Server which is housed at Town Hall. Roger also installed a computer that works in
tandem with the server to stream Channel 2 live via their website. Both devices are now accessed remotely by
Roger from El Dorado Hills! SCATV2
received both ready to broadcast and raw footage from producers. It is the responsibility of Program Director
Gary Campbell to upload programs and
schedule them on the server from his office in Cameron Park. Gary is known for his skillful editing of the
footage provided by the team of volunteers.
In the first year of Channel 2 the first contributors
of video were Bill Thorpe, Michelle Vien, Stan Okumura of Cinema Caldera, Roger Ruby and Leroy
Goodenough. Bill had great downtown
Placerville videos, Michelle had filmed a short feature on CASA, Stan had
filmed a wonderful feature on New Morning.
Roger shot some new videos on the County Fair, Burke’s Junction, and the
4th of July at Cameron Park.
Leroy was out filming music at the Fusion Gallery and Farmer’s Market. The team of volunteers armed with cameras and
editing software has since grown. George
Sabato and Michelle Vien teamed up to produce a video on James Marshall’s 100th
Birtday Celebration at Coloma. Bertie
Bern and Leroy did a video of Nancy Siegler’s Sunflower Fundraiser for Bread
Cancer. The Community Calendar was given
a complete make-over thanks to the Leightronix video server.
SCATV2 has
gone from having nothing on the video server to filling up the entire 250 gig
memory! Old shows are now being archived
as new shows are scheduled. The new
Channel 2’s recent schedules are so dynamic.
The seven camera shoot of Veteran’s Day at the El Dorado County Memorial
produced by Gary Campbell has captivated
viewers as viewers watch our community honor our heros. Jason Bross (and his remote controlled
helicopter ) now have earned a half hour slot in the weekly Prime Time Schedule

full Autumn color, Clarksville Days…).

our viewers.
